Biography

Michael McReynolds is an audio engineer, performer, and creative professional from Noblesville, Indiana. After studying classical piano and jazz guitar from a young age, he stepped into the realm of music production and audio in 2011. While learning his way around the nuances of songwriting and audio engineering in Ableton, McReynolds used his creative skills to begin a dance music project under the alias Sweater Disco.

During his time at Indiana University, Michael acted as head recording engineer for 3 operas and worked with other large ensembles in the Jacobs School of Music, including the IU Vocal Jazz Ensemble. In a more intimate studio setting, he organized and engineered sessions for jazz, rock, and classical groups in the Georgina Joshi Studio. In August 2018, Michael graduated from the Jacobs School of Music with a degree in audio engineering and sound production, and a minor from the Kelley School of Business.

At the same time, Michael, along with engineers Erica Wood and Dominic King, co-founded Home Planet, an innovative label and dance music event crew focusing on non-traditional venues in a market where most music spaces were exclusively 21+. Left-field DJs cut their teeth at Home Planet events, and up-and-coming national acts like CLB, Xavi, PRXZM, and JKuch praised the events for their atmosphere and open-minded partygoers. He handled the promotion and distribution of Home Planet’s first 4 releases, and continues to showcase new music through Home Planet’s social media pages.

Michael currently teaches Ableton Live courses at Deckademics DJ and Production School, and will be joining the IU Indianapolis faculty in 2024 as an adjunct instructor teaching in the Music Technology department. Outside of his work as an educator, he organizes workshops and events for the Indianapolis section of the Ableton User Group, and he continues to take on work as a mixing & mastering engineer; a highlight would be his engineering work on the PRXZM record “Where We Started” which was licensed by Microsoft for the 2022 video game Forza Horizon 5. In his free time he gigs around the Midwest, DJing under the Sweater Disco moniker. His production has caught the attention of blogs like NEST HQ, Insomniac Events, and EDM Identity, and in 2022 he curated a guest mix for Teethy Thursdays, Morelia’s show on Insomniac Radio.
